Meeting future NOX emissions using an electric heater in an advanced aftertreatment system

چکیده

Engine and aftertreatment solutions are being identified to meet the upcoming ultra-low NO x regulations on heavy duty vehicles as published by California Air Resources Board (CARB) proposed United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) for year 2027 beyond. These standards will require changes current conventional systems dealing with low exhaust temperature scenarios. One approach meeting this challenge is supply additional heat from engine; however, comes a fuel penalty which not attractive encourages other options. Another method external generated directly system. The following work focuses later maintaining production engine calibration coupling an Electric Heater (EH) upstream of Light-Off Selective Catalytic Reduction (LO-SCR) followed primary system containing downstream (SCR). External supplied using EH reduce Tailpipe (TP) emissions minimal penalty. Two configurations have been implemented, first Close Coupled (CC) LO-SCR configuration second Underfloor (UF) configuration. CC shows best outcome it closer engine, helping achieve required lower power while UF addresses real-world packaging options LO-SCR. This that 7 kW LO-SCR, in absence heated Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), met regulatory limit. It also sub-6-inch diameter negligible pressure drop can be easily packaged into future

Model-Based Fault Diagnosis of a NOx Aftertreatment System

The Lean NOx Trap (LNT) is an aftertreatment device used to attain a reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions for Diesel and lean burn engines. The LNT is typically used as a storage device, capturing NOx during lean engine operation. The trap can be regenerated by controlling the exhaust air-fuel ratio to create a rich gas mixture. Under rich conditions, the stored NOx is released and catalytical...

Particulate Matter and NOx Exhaust Aftertreatment Systems

Fleet fuel consumption is greatly reduced through the introduction of the HSDI Diesel engine. The reduced fuel consumption is then reflected in a reduction of CO2 emissions. The drop in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions results in a rise in market acceptance, which is also the result of desirable driving performance and greatly improved NVH behavior. The continuously increasing demands on plac...

An experimental study of the management system in an ignition engine to reduce the emissions

The present study aims at investigating the amount of exhaust gases emissions of a 4-cylinder gasoline-ignition engine. An experimental study of an ignition engine management system has been conducted for emissions optimization, using Winols specialized software. In order to achieve a steady state conditions in the experiments, the temperature of the water and engine oil before each test reache...
